What To Do About New Years Resolutions

Now that all of the holiday hoopla is officially behind us, conventional wisdom in the fitness community suggests that if you operate a gym or health club, that this is the time to put your promotional "bait" in the water because all of the new year's resolution "fish" will be biting. My mailbox has already been littered with ankle-biting offers from the usual corporate behemoths (Planet Fatness, LAzy Fitness, etc), and it's no surprise that Weight Watchers recently unveiled its slick ad campaigns featuring celebs Janet Jackson, Charles Barkley, and Jennifer Hudson.

The big question is:

Do A-list spokespeople and dirt cheap deals hold their value after they capture your attention?

Remember that Weight Watchers doesn't go out of their way to tell you that Jackson, Barkley, and Hudson are paid handsomely for their positive reviews. They also neglect to overtly disclose that the celebs' successes are in conjunction with a consistent exercise program over several weeks and months, most-likely supervised by a well-respected personal trainer. (Not to mention how the production of their commercials is meticulously planned to blur any areas that may not be 100% perfect. . .ie, wardrobe, make-up, lighting, etc.) And the big-box fitness centers won't tell you that they are banking (pun intended) on you NOT coming back to their establishment after the honeymoon wears off in a few months. *

It is for these reasons that I'm proud to announce my New Year's resolution . . .

In 2012, I resolve not to have any celebrity endorsements or penny-promotions to persuade potential clients to try my humble establishment.

I'd rather focus on the 3 qualities that make our private fitness studio unique:

NO CRAZY CONTRACT OR RECURRING MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP FEES

NOT A MEAT-MARKET. COLOGNE, JEWELRY AND MAKE-UP NOT NECESSARY

ENJOY A COMFORTABLE, NON-JUDGMENTAL ATMOSPHERE THAT IS NOT A FISHBOWL
